2015 Food Trends

Every New Year brings its own new food trends. And the best in the business anticipate these preferences and respond with offerings that will meet the consumers’ needs. How can you be ready? Here’s a look at what’s on the horizon for 2015:

 

  • Wide Variety of Flavors – Customers are intrigued by new, unique flavor combinations. Tastes are diverse and gourmet popcorn makes an excellent option as it can satisfy a wide range of palates. It’s easily flavored to be sweet, fruity, salty, cheesy or bold. You’ll also continue to see an influx of distinct, non-traditional flavors. NEW for 2015 is Gold Medal’s Wasabi (a spicy Japanese condiment) shake-on popcorn flavor (Item # 2434).
  • Signature Menu Items – A more customized menu means a more personal customer experience. That’s what will set your business apart. Try adding flavors that are regional or seasonal. For example, Cheddar Pretzel Ale popcorn (Item # 2438)  is ideal for a sports bar to promote during football or baseball season. For special occasions, bakeries can cross-sell Birthday Cake popcorn (Item # 2439) as a fun party favor. The main goal is to find ways to personalize your products and create more sales opportunities.
  • Snack Attack – Snack food sales are estimated to soar to $77 billion in 2015. More individuals are trading meals for convenient grab-and-go foods. Stores must adapt to this new mindset by offering more snack options. Snacks that stand out the most are those that engage the senses. The aroma of freshly popped popcorn can be very persuasive. The warmth of hot-and-ready foods like hot dogs, pizza or soft pretzels can also attract customers.
