How to Choose the Best Commercial Waffle Maker

What You Need to Know When Buying a Waffle Baker

Welcome to the wonderful world of waffles! Whether served for breakfast, with ice cream, or something in between, waffles are a crowd-pleasing addition to any menu and a significant profit maker too. Choosing the right waffle maker or waffle iron is an important decision. We’ll help you navigate the process and show just how innovative waffles can be!

Standard Versus Electronic

When buying a commercial waffle maker, there are key differences between standard and electronic bakers. The primary question to ask relates to volume. Only low-volume operators should consider a standard baker. Standard equipment is simply not meant to handle a mid to high-volume output. In active venues, bakers can often be left on for extended periods of time to accommodate customer demand. An electronic baker has greater durability to withstand that type of usage. Additional benefits of electronic models include a push-button timer and convenient digital temperature adjustment.

Coated or Uncoated?

The decision to choose a coated or uncoated baker is greatly dependent upon personal preference. A coated non-stick grid is common in settings like hotel breakfast buffets, where you have multiple users and may not want to rely on sprays. Coated are also easier to clean, but it is important to note that abrasive cleaners cannot be used as they will damage the baker. A non-coated grid will require a spray. (Gold Medal recommends Seas’n Kleen Grid Spray.) When making gourmet waffles with inclusions such as chocolate chips, blueberries, or Signature Blends™, many operators prefer the versatility offered with a non-coated grid.

Types of Waffle Makers

Let’s explore the different types of waffles. Gold Medal supplies waffle irons for: Belgian waffles (round and square), waffle cones, bubble waffles (aka puff poppers), and waffle dogs.

Belgian Waffles

Fluffy Belgian waffles are a favorite treat for breakfast or brunch. Gold Medal offers the Removable Grid Round Belgian Waffle Baker with Electronic Control with a roll-over feature to allow for even cooking. It cooks up one full-size round Belgian waffle. There is also a unit that cooks up four small rounds, the Four-Round Non-Stick Belgian Waffle Baker. Or try the Four-Square Belgian Waffle Baker with Non-stick Coating and Electronic Controls. The square shape works great for chicken and waffle dishes.

Waffle Cones

The perfect gourmet addition for ice cream is the classic waffle cone. You’ll have your choice of bakers that are either uncoated or have a non-stick coating. And don’t forget to add your Easy Waffle Cone Roller, the must-have accessory for ice cream shops.

Bubble Waffles or Puff Poppers

Bubble waffles can be sweet or savory treats. Great for dipping or stuffing, they are simple to make using the Non-stick Puff Popper Baker with Electronic Control.

Waffle Dogs

Conveniently served up on a stick, waffle dogs are the ideal portable snack. Gold Medal’s Waffle Dog Baker can also be used to make baked corn dogs, pizza sticks, and other walking foods.
