Gold Medal's greatest pop hits

It's time to salute one of America’s oldest snack foods. While popcorn and movies didn't become a match made in profit heaven until after World War II, the oldest popcorn traces date back to 4,000 years ago and were found in the Bat Cave of West Central New Mexico. That’s why for this October’s National Popcorn Poppin’ Month, we’re taking a look back at some fun facts from the Popcorn Board, improvements in corn production and popping, and the inventions made by one of the concession leaders during its 80 years in business.

It began in 1931, when David C. Evans purchased Kings Ink for the $2,000 he borrowed on his home. This small company later broadened its ink-only line to include paste, glue and other small item lines. It added concession supplies and equipment to become Gold Medal Products Co.
